The Howa 22 inch Standard 308 Winchester Barrel Action provides the Long Range Hunter and sport shooter with the best of both target shooting accuracy and a very functional hunting rifle. The 22 inch barrel profile provides the extra stiffness. The 22 inch barrel allows for optimum burning of the propellant resulting good muzzle velocity and flatter trajectories. The standard barrel profile also creates less recoil for absolute target shooting accuracy. It also comes with a forged flat bottom receiver with an integral recoil lug. HOWA 22 INCH STANDARD 308 WINCHESTER BARREL ACTION FEATURES
ACTION
The Howa M-1500 features a dual locking lug action, providing you with the same action type as some of the best custom built rifles, but at a fraction of the cost. The Bolt handle acts as a third safety lug. One of the safest and strongest bolt actions on the market, the bolt features a one-piece forged body and handle. Three pressure relief holes are located at the bottom of the main body. An external style M16 type spring loaded extractor and a M16 style internal plunger ejector. The action length is also matched to the cartridge size of the caliber.
SAFETY
The Howa M-1500 Models provide you with a three position safety. The safety is easy to operate and allows you to unload the rifle while it is still in safety mode. The firing pin assembly is housed in a metallic bolt shroud. All Howa M-1500 bolt actions are drilled and tapped to accept one or two piece bases for the mounting of optics.
BARREL
The free-floating hammer forged barrel has no sights for a modern look and finish. The increased diameter of the barrel will result in increased weight and less recoil. Slower heating of the barrel will also take place during a succession of shots. As with all other Howa M-1500 models, the Howa Varmint model has a twist rate that is carefully selected for each individual caliber to optimize bullet performance and accuracy. Barrels come with a precision crown in both threaded and non threaded options.
HOWA HACT 2 STAGE TRIGGER
All Howa Varmint rifles include an adjustable Howa HACT 2 Stage Trigger. The Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger system eliminates trigger creep and lightens the trigger pull, delivering out of the box accuracy. The HACT System fits all Howa M-1500 rifles that were previously equipped with Howa’s three position safety trigger group. The trigger is set to 2.5 – 3 lb. It is finished with a serrated trigger shoe.
MAGAZINE
The Howa barrel action features wide ejection port in the receiver making it easier to feed one cartridge at a time though the port. It comes with a fixed magazine with a hinged floorplate to remove ammunition from the bottom. There is a wide variety of detachable magazines and floorplates available as aftermarket accessories.
